The 10W-40 should provide great protection all year round. The first number in the case of your car 0W-30 is just an emphirical number and is only true till the engine warms up then it is a 30 weight oil. Well I just bought recently a 2005 VTX 1300R with only 6,400 miles on it and the owner said he never had it serviced. So I went to the dealer and had a complete service on my bike. Yes it was expensive. It was $275 bux, but they went thru the complete bike, valves, carb, plugs, filters , oils bolts, breaks etc etc. Took them 4 hrs.mobil 1 oil name change. I'm going to change it at 600mi using Quaker State conventional oil and change it every 2000mi using conventional oil. I saw the price of Mobil 1 synthetic at appx $7.00 a quart, and picked up a gallon of Quaker State 10w-40 for $6.50. Yep that's rigtht, 4 quarts for $6.50.
